What is finance software?
Finance software is the layer that records, manages, and reports on the money flowing through an organization. The category covers core accounting and general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, billing and revenue management, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), close and consolidation, treasury, and the AI-driven assistants that automate transaction processing and analysis.
The boundary between adjacent categories is fluid. ERP suites bundle finance with operations, procurement, and HR. Standalone accounting platforms compete with ERP at the smaller end. Modern stacks frequently combine a system of record (ERP or core accounting) with specialized best-of-breed tools for AP automation, billing, expense, and FP&A. The unifying theme: software that turns financial activity into structured data and that data into decisions.
