What is ClickUp and what is it used for?
ClickUp is a work management app that brings tasks, documents, whiteboards, chat, dashboards and time tracking into a single Workspace. Teams use it to plan projects, track deadlines and talk about the work without switching apps.
The basic unit is the task, organized in a hierarchy of Workspace, Spaces, Folders and Lists. The same set of tasks can be viewed as a list, a kanban board, a calendar or a Gantt chart, depending on who is looking.
The other modules sit around the tasks. Docs are collaborative documents kept next to the work. Whiteboards are for mapping ideas and flows. Chat has channels, direct messages and threads linked to tasks and docs. Dashboards pull metrics together, including tracked and billable hours.
ClickUp Brain is the AI layer that works across tasks, docs and chat. Heavy AI use is billed on its own, separate from the plan.
The most common users are operations, marketing, product and agency teams that want one tool instead of several. The Free Forever plan allows unlimited members, so a whole team can try it before paying.
