What is Jira and what is it used for?
Jira is an Atlassian tool for planning, tracking and releasing work, used mostly by software engineering and project management teams.
The unit of work is the work item: a task, a bug or a story. Items show up on Scrum or Kanban boards and in a backlog, where the team decides what goes into each sprint. Each team can adjust its workflows, meaning the steps and the rules for moving between them, to match its own process.
Jira connects to the rest of Atlassian, such as Confluence for documentation and Bitbucket for code, and to a catalog of more than 3,000 apps and integrations.
There are four plans: Free, Standard, Premium and Enterprise. Free covers up to 10 users with no time limit and already includes Scrum and Kanban boards and a backlog. It is a good way to test a real team's workflow before paying.
