What is Upwork and what is it used for?
Upwork is an online work marketplace where companies hire freelancers and agencies for projects, and communication, delivery tracking and payment all run through the platform. It serves anyone who needs outside specialists without opening a permanent position.
The company describes the project, receives proposals and compares experience, portfolio and terms before choosing. It can also search for professionals directly by the skills needed. Hiring follows one of two models: hourly, where the freelancer logs time worked and the client reviews the hours, or fixed price, where the amount is released by delivery milestones.
There are plans for companies of different sizes: Basic, Business Plus for small and mid-sized teams, and Enterprise for large organizations, with compliance and administration features. Upwork also lets a company bring a freelancer it already knows onto the platform through direct contracts.
