What is TeamViewer and what is it used for?
TeamViewer is remote access software that lets you connect to computers and devices from a distance to provide technical support and administer work environments.
In practice, an IT technician opens a remote session on the user's machine, sees the screen, takes control and fixes the problem without being on site. You can also reach your own or a company machine from outside the office, and transfer files between the devices in the session, according to the permissions set.
Beyond the session itself, the product organizes the devices used in support, to make locating and maintaining the environment easier, and lets you configure who accesses each device and review security options. The Business, Premium and Corporate plans also include TeamViewer Meeting, for meetings.
The main audience is technical support and IT administration teams. Anyone evaluating the product should look at each plan's limits, such as licensed users, managed devices and concurrent sessions, because those limits drive the price.
Review permissions, data handling and retention with the security team before enabling remote access to company equipment.
